Mantralayam Thursday Darshan — The Most Auspicious Day
Thursday is Guruvar — the day of the Guru — and at Mantralayam, where a Guru of extraordinary standing is entombed, Thursday carries a weight that no other day does. Crowds are the highest of the week, sevas fill faster, and the atmosphere in the Matha is different.
If you’re visiting on a Thursday:
- Reach by 6:00 AM for morning darshan without a long wait
- Rathotsavam (chariot procession) at 7:00 PM is the major event — plan to be inside the Matha by 6:30 PM

HH Sri Swamiji’s Mantrakshata Blessings:

Mantrakshata is the blessing where the Swamiji (current pontiff of the Matha) showers akshaate (coloured rice) on devotees while giving a personal blessing. This is separate from general Brindavana darshan — it’s direct blessings from the living head of the Matha. Devotees who come specifically for this should time their arrival so they’re inside the Matha before these windows begin. The morning slot (10 AM) tends to have shorter wait times than the evening.

About Sri Raghavendra Swamy Mutt
Born in 1595, Raghavendra Swamy became the pontiff of the Uttaradi Matha and spent decades as a teacher, debater, and commentator in the Dvaita Vedanta tradition. In 1671 at Mantralayam, he entered Brindavana — living samadhi. Devotees believe he is still present, still accessible, still giving. That belief is what fills this place daily.
The Moola Rama is the principal deity of the Matha. Alongside, the Matha houses Sri Digvijaya Rama (worshipped by Madhvacharya) and Jaya Rama (worshipped by Sri Jayatirtha) — deities carried through centuries of the Dvaita lineage. The Matha also enshrines Sri Shodash Bahu Narasimha, Santan Gopala Krishna, Vaikuntha Vasudeva, and Vitthal.
This is a Matha, not just a temple — a living institution of Vedic scholarship, Sanskrit study, and Dvaita philosophy that has continued without interruption since the 17th century.
How to Reach Mantralayam
The Matha is on the banks of the Tungabhadra, in Kurnool district. The closest railway station is Mantralayam Road, 14 km out — autos from there take 20 to 30 minutes. Hyderabad is 280 km (about 4.5 hours by road), Bengaluru 340 km (5 hours), Kurnool town 75 km (1.5 hours). APSRTC buses run to Mantralayam from both Hyderabad and Kurnool; most people from further away drive or take a train to Kurnool and hire a vehicle.
