Thirteen kilometres from Mysore’s palace, at 3,300 feet on Chamundi Hills, Goddess Chamundeshwari has been watching over this city longer than the palace has existed. The Mysore Maharajas called her their Kula Devi — family goddess — and the temple they patronised over centuries still draws lakhs of devotees every year. The hill itself is named after that victory — Chamundi, the one who slew Chanda and Munda, later Mahishasura. Locals still call her Karnataka’s Nada Devi, the state’s own goddess. The Hoysala kings built the first stone temple here in the 12th century. Five hundred years later, Vijayanagara rulers raised the gopuram that still dominates the skyline from Mysore city below.

People have been making this climb since then. Some drive. Some do all 1,008 steps. The temple gates open at 4:00 AM — but darshan starts at 7:30 AM. Those who arrive before 7 are here for the Abhishekam, or the Friday 5 AM special that regulars will not miss.
Chamundeshwari Temple Online Booking — Step by Step
Official website: chamundeshwaritemple.in
Open chamundeshwaritemple.in and click “Book Sevas/Rooms” in the menu. Pick the seva you want, select a date, and check availability. When a slot shows up, click it — you’ll fill in your name, mobile number, and ID details, then pay. The confirmation lands on your phone as an SMS, and you download the ticket from there. Important: A printed copy of the booking is mandatory — a phone screenshot is not accepted at the counter. Print the e-ticket before you leave.
Room bookings work the same way — just go to chamundeshwaritemple.in/Bookticket.aspx instead.
If you’d rather not book online, the temple counter handles both seva and room reservations in person. Either way works.
Two things worth noting: Prasadam for Abhishekam ticket holders is distributed at 7:30–10:30 AM and 7:30–9:00 PM only — don’t miss this window after your Abhishekam. And saree bookings work on a different schedule — only the current month’s slots are open at any time, with next month releasing just 5 days in advance. Plan accordingly if saree seva is your purpose.

Note: The temple gates open at 4:00 AM daily, but darshan begins only at 7:30 AM (7:00 AM on Sundays). The 4 AM opening is for early morning Abhishekam and preparation rituals — not general darshan.
The 2:00–3:30 PM closure catches a lot of visitors who drive up from Mysore after lunch. Arriving at 2:15 PM means sitting outside in the sun for over an hour. The morning window — 8 to 11 AM — is the most comfortable, and evening darshan after 4 PM is cooler and quieter.
Chamundeshwari Temple VIP Entry Pass — ₹30, ₹100 & Free
The Chamundeshwari temple VIP entry pass comes in two paid tiers — plus free general darshan:
Free Darshan — general queue, longest wait on busy days
₹30 Special Darshan — faster queue, moderate wait
₹100 Special Entry — quickest darshan, shortest queue
₹100–₹500 Special Pooja — early morning slot (6:00–7:30 AM), most intimate
On regular weekdays, free darshan takes 20–30 minutes and is perfectly comfortable. On Navratri, Ashada Shukravara Fridays, and weekends, the ₹100 ticket is worth it — the difference in queue time is significant.

How to Reach Chamundi Hills Temple
Chamundi Hills is 13 km from Mysore city — roughly 25 to 30 minutes by cab or the KSRTC bus no. 201 from Mysore Bus Stand. Private cabs run around ₹200–₹400 one way, and parking is available at the top.
The other option — more traditional and more tiring — is the 1,008-step stairway from the base. Halfway up the steps, there’s a 5-metre Nandi — carved in 1659, still there, still watching. Most people who do the steps go up on foot and take the road down, which is the right call.
Mysuru Junction railway station is 13 km away. Mysore Airport is 12 km; Kempegowda International (Bengaluru) is about 145 km, roughly 3 hours by road.

Chamundeshwari Temple — FAQ
The online booking isn’t working — what do I do? Try chamundeshwaritemple.in directly and clear your browser cache first. If the portal is down, the temple counter does offline booking for both seva and rooms.
Best time to visit Chamundeshwari temple? Early weekday mornings — 8 to 11 AM — before the tour groups arrive. Avoid 2 to 3:30 PM (afternoon break) and Sunday afternoons. October to February has the most comfortable weather on the hill.
What’s the difference between ₹30 and ₹100 darshan? ₹30 gets you a faster queue than free darshan. ₹100 is faster still — noticeably shorter lines. The early morning Special Pooja slots (₹100–₹500, 6 to 7:30 AM) are the most personal experience, before the main crowds begin.
Friday abhishekam — how early do I need to reach? The Friday special starts at 5:00 AM, an hour before other days. Reach Kaddukhal by 4:30 AM if you’re driving from Mysore city, or earlier if you’ve booked a temple room on the hill.
Is Chamundeshwari one of the 18 Shakti Pithas? Yes. It’s specifically called Krouncha Pitha in Puranic texts — the region’s ancient name — and is counted among the 18 Shakti Pithas.
Room booking — is there accommodation on the hill? Yes, the temple trust has guest rooms. Book at chamundeshwaritemple.in/Bookticket.aspx or call +91 08212590027. Useful if you’re attending the Friday 5 AM Abhishekam and don’t want the early morning drive.
Timings, prices, and booking details are from Sri Chamundeshwari Development Authority records as of July 2026. Festival days can change things — worth a quick check on chamundeshwaritemple.in before you head up the hill.
