I’ve seen too many people stand in the 41°C Varanasi heat for three hours just to realize they missed the aarti they wanted. Kashi Vishwanath runs like a high-tech machine now, and if you don’t know the 2026 “rules,” you’re going to have a rough time.

Baba Vishwanath has five main aartis. Here’s the real deal on how to actually see them.
The Daily Schedule (May 2026)
| The Aarti | The Time | Cost | The Truth |
| Mangala | 3:00 AM | ₹500 | Impossible to book last minute. |
| Bhog | 11:15 AM | ₹300 | Brutally hot; stay in the shade. |
| Sapta Rishi | 7:00 PM | ₹300 | The best one. Absolute energy. |
| Night Shringar | 9:00 PM | ₹300 | Best for photographers (no phones though!). |
| Shayan | 10:30 PM | Free | The local secret. Quiet and peaceful. |
Why I always recommend the Sapta Rishi Aarti
If you only choose one, make it the Sapta Rishi Aarti at 7:00 PM. Legend says the seven great sages come down to perform this for Shiva. It’s loud, it’s intense, and the vibration in that small space is incredible.
Wait! If you are going on a Full Moon (Purnima) night this May, the schedule shifts one hour earlier. Don’t trust the standard boards; check the local panchang or ask your hotel.
The “Night Shringar” Hack
If the morning chaos isn’t for you, go at 9:00 PM. This is when they decorate the Jyotirlinga with flowers and sandalwood. It’s the “visual” aarti. If you have the budget, the Purnima Shringar (₹3700) is expensive, but it gets you much closer for a more “intimate” darshan.
2026 Booking: Don’t Get Scammed
Everything is digital now. Use shrikashivishwanath.org.
-
The Mangala Hack: General booking opens 30 days out. If you missed it, try the Tatkal slots at 11:00 AM for the next day.
-
Entry Strategy: Use Gate 1 if you have a regular ticket. If you did the Tatkal scramble, head to Gate 4B.
Varanasi Survival: May Edition
-
Leave the Phone at the Hotel: Seriously. The lockers near Shapuri Mall have queues that are sometimes longer than the temple line. You can’t even take a leather belt inside. Travel light.
-
Sugam Darshan is a Lifesaver: In the May heat, ₹300 for a “Sugam Darshan” ticket is the best money you’ll spend. It’s basically a fast-pass that skips the 3-hour general queue.
-
What to Wear: Keep it simple. Trousers or a Dhoti for men; a suit or saree for women. Just avoid shorts—they might turn you away at the gate.
Quick Questions I Get All The Time
-
Can I touch the Linga? (Sparsh Darshan): Honestly? Probably not in May. When it’s this crowded, they usually ban it to keep the line moving. Ask at the helpdesk, but don’t count on it.
-
Is the 10:30 PM Aarti really free? Yes. It’s the Shayan Aarti. It’s when the Lord is put to bed. If you want a peaceful moment without 10,000 people pushing you, this is the time.

How do I get a priest for a private puja? Book a Rudrabhishek (around ₹450) online. The temple assigns a Shastri to you. Don’t pay random people outside claiming to be “
