The temple construction received contributions from various rulers of the region, such as Vikrama Chola, Veera Rajendra Pandya, Achutappa Nayak (1560 – 1614 AD), and the Maratha prince Thulaja. The temple has five inscriptions, which mainly belong to the period of Kulothunga Chola I (1070-1120 AD).
